6 Myths and Truths about Wicca

Hello, friends! Here are some interesting myths and truths about Wicca to keep you informed during WICCA AWARENESS MONTH! And if you have not yet snapped up your personal copy of the new book Generation Hex, please do so now on amazon.com. We hope you will take this opportunity to become informed about this influential cultural and spiritual trend!

Generation Hex: Uncovering the Truth about Wicca
Myth #1: You can tell a person is a Wiccan just by looking at him or her.
Truth: Jami Shoemaker of Llewellyn Publishers said, “The average witch is a beautiful twenty-five year old.” Wiccans do not necessarily dress “Goth,” nor do they ride on broomsticks!
Myth #2: Wiccans are Satan worshippers who sacrifice living beings.
Truth: Wiccans do not worship Satan directly. They consider Satan part of the Christian tradition; most don’t even believe that he exists. They do not perform human or animal sacrifices.
Myth #3: Wiccans are trying to convert others to their religion.
Truth: Wiccans read books on Christianity and other religions. However, they typically do not try to convert others to their faith.
Myth #4: Wiccans don’t follow any rules.
Truth: Wiccans follow the Wiccan Rede, which states, “’An it harm none, do as ye will” (translation: “As long as it doesn’t harm anyone, do whatever you want”). They also follow the Rule of Three, which states that the consequences of a person’s actions, whether positive or negative, will return to that person threefold.
Myth #5: Wicca and Christianity are compatible.
Truth: Scripture clearly states that Christians are not to participate in any form of witchcraft. This includes séances, casting spells, palm reading or fortune telling, using Tarot cards, communicating with spirits, playing with Ouija boards, or playing occult-related video games.
Myth #6: Arguing with a Wiccan about God or the Bible is the best way to lead that person to Christ.
Truth: Wiccans enjoy engaging in honest, open dialogue about their faith. If you show genuine interest in them, most will be glad to discuss their beliefs and experiences with you. When you have the opportunity, share your positive personal testimony about how God has transformed your life through Christ.

  2. another correction!!1

"""You are probably thinking that we celebrate these holidays in honor jesus’ ( the christian god in the flesh) birth and death."""

iwhen saying you are probably thinking we celebrate these holidays in honor jesus’ ( the christian god in the flesh) birth and death. I meant "we" as in Christians, not wiccans.

  3. sorry Mike, but I feel your view of Christmas etc, is a bit off of the reality for most christians. I understand that you are celebrating those days for other reasons though. :)
There is also a decided difference between traditions and witchcraft. :)

    Greetings, btw... :)

  6. Ok , There is a huge differance here between wiccan and a Highpriest and a high priestess. Some wiccans call them selfs this. These priest do practist in satanism. I went to a bible study where the lady giving it was raised in a home that were satanist, some in the gang claimed to be witches, high priest. They did awful things to her to please their master satan, long story but true.
There are others out there that claim to witches but keep very quite and only do their practice when in the group , They have a huge net work out there and you would never know who they were. Could be your doctor, your teacher who knows????
Now the wiccans you are talking about, its true some do even read the bible. Some think they can drive out evil spirits by there mixes of herbs and what not. Some truly believe they have a speical gift.
I dont agree staying friends with them, I believe we can share who Jesus is and how he saved us and tell that person the gospel, but God doesnt want us walking w/ darkness. He said that darkness and light cant dwell in the same place. We must not enyoke our selfs with these people....
Every since Adam sinned we have been at war with satan, he will try to pluck the love of God from many hearts, he will decive many and he is running out of time... I pray all the time for Gods wisdom to rest on these people, that they see the true light Which is Jesus CHRIST who came to set the prisioner free.....

  8. Shayla Sage (Yule Child)13 de septiembre de 2009 a las 12:56

Im Shayla Sage and I was born on Yule in the summer. Rev. Micheal, you might talk alot about our Wiccan religion but I believe for one to know what we speak they must see it from there own eyes. My coven and I are new and we do have a HP who is very wise and shows us very much things. But I do not like the first myth. I dont believ this is true. Me and my "sisters" are all still in high school. Yes I said high school and we ARE Wiccans.

I am the youngest in our coven. We dont dress "Goth" that is true. But there are a few of us who are teenagers. I am only 16 years old so I know. Out HP is in her 30s I think. But me and my "sisters" are between 16 to 18 years old. There are 4 of us. Brietta, Salem, Keller and me (Our names we made up). Rev. Micheal, you are a Wiccan correct? Well do you have any young wiccans like ourselves?

You can E-mail me at shaylsage@yahoo.com

Blessed be Marry may and Marry meet.

  9. Thanks for the corrections. I was going to use some of the material from here on my site but first i had to correct a few errors. I personally think not ALL christians are evil but some are downright annoying. I have seen so many try to convert me trying to save my soul. Actually, a lot of christian holidays were based on pagan celebrations: for ex: most historians believe christ was actually born in march or so, the holiday christmas came from the pagan holiday yule.

  10. Okay okay okay stop bagging on wiccans i mean really not all of us practice witchcraft there are diffrent kinds of wiccans for ex. me i am not only a wiccan i am a christian-wiccan because wicca is not just a study of the craft of magik we do not all study it we just become more in contact with our inner spirit and some of us are what other people are called tree huggers we believe in saving and preserving nature so stop bagging on us we dont worship "satan" people when you give evil a name it gives it more control over you and if you where using normal christian view points there is no satan only Lusifer and he is nothing but a fallin angel thank you very much good bye.

  12. I don't agree that you cannot be friends with people from other religions. The Jews lived distant from everyone else, and they became hated and outcasts. Kinda like Christians are now. If we are to show that God is love, how do you do that by throwing pieces of scripture at the "darkness" then running away. Christianity is not a religion, it's a relationship with the one who came and died for us. If you don't believe that, then that's OK, I love you anyway. You can still come over my house and have dinner with me, I'll still watch your kids for you and hopefully you can see the love I have for Christ and wonder why I have so much peace. But I don't want to hang with you to make you into me. Wiccans and all other religions are PEOPLE living life the best they know how. And we Christians have as much to learn from them as they may from us. It's about relationship. God puts people in your life for a reason, and you are not responsible for converting everyone of them, we are salt and light, not bulldozers and jackhammers. The who part about "not judging" in the bible, means not considering people evil, hate the sin love the sinner...remember.
